The History of Gilzean Electronics
Gilzean Electronics was started in early 2004 by myself. Ivan Gilzean I am an expert in consumer electronics and brown goods servicing with almost 42 years “experience working in the trade”. In addition to being a City & Guilds qualified television engineer I have worked over the years in conjunction with several manufacturers TLO’s (technical liaison officers) to resolve issues with products. I have run service workshops for both large and small businesses in the past. I have also worked in home with many customers to resolve technical problems.
I also have many years of experience of the aerial and satellite Industry having worked on aerials throughout my career and satellite systems since the beginning of analogue transmissions in the mid 1980’s I am also a veteran radio amateur, callsign G8ZRD of some 30 years. For several years during the 80’s I was employed as a tutor for the radio amateurs exam at local colleges and gained much valuable teaching experience as a result.
More recently l have personally undergone further training and assessment to obtain my level 2 NVQ City & Guilds (signal reception pathways) which allowed me to become a registered digital installer RDI. In addition I am also a plus member of the confederation of aerial industries which is the UK trade body that represents all sectors of the aerial industry. Member ship is not automatic and every member has to undergo regular assessment to ensure that recognised standards of the CAI are maintained I take great pride in all of my work and aim to give all, of my many customers the best service at the best possible price without compromising on quality.
During the last eight years I have built up a sound reputation in both the trade and retail sectors for quality work at a fair price.
I use only the best available spares, quality cables and aerial equipment, backed up by some of the very best state of the art test and diagnostic equipment to ensure the best possible outcome.
It is a fact that we have better equipment at our disposal than many of the manufacturers authorised service centres.
These days televisions operate rather like computers and on the odd occasion require firmware upgrades. We routinely copy and hold on file many upgrades. Those we do not have we can usually obtain through a specialist trade network.

Frequently asked questions: Do you have a call charge?. The answer is Yes I do have a set charge for calling to your home. For television repairs that charge is £46.00 and it covers the cost of getting to you, and up to ! Hour spent in your home. If I decide to collect the appliance for workshop service the charge is taken as a deposit. If for any reason we are unable to complete a repair that is all you will be required to pay and the item will be delivered back to you. That charge also covers any workshop diagnostic time. For aerial and satellite work that charge is from the 3rd of January 2012 £50.00 for the call out and the first hour on site. Plus parts. This is due to increased operating costs.
Beware of people offering a no win no fee, or free call out to your home. The last time I filled up my van the price of diesel was £1.44 per litre. That has to be paid for, along with the cost of actually operating the vehicle, and I have to make a profit to stay in business. My competitors have to do the same. I will wager that my prices are the cheapest in this area. I have a standard mark up on my spare parts prices so no one gets ripped off. My labour charges are probably the smallest per hour of any television engineer.
